What are Boomers?
In marijuana culture, the term “boomers” refers to mature cannabis seeds. Boomer seeds are larger and darker than fresh seeds.
They also have a harder outer shell. Boomer seeds form when buds containing unfertilized female flowers sit too long before processing.
Pistils begin producing small seed pods, which enlarge over time, forming boomers. These low-quality mature seeds are considered undesirable by growers and consumers.
The genetics and viability of boomer seeds are questionable since they were not properly harvested and stored.
There is less control over the pollination process as well. Boomers are removed from high-quality cannabis buds by processors.
Their presence usually indicates substandard growing and processing practices. However, boomer seeds collected in bulk may still germinate.
Some growers use boomers to experiment with new plants, though boomer cannabis tends to have lower potency.
