What is Heat Cleaning?
Heat cleaning utilizes low heat to remove residue from cannabis pipes, bongs, and other gear. It’s an alternative to liquid cleaners and solvents.
The process involves heating the item until any built-up resin, ash, or plant matter becomes malleable. Then, it can be wiped away with ease.
Common techniques include:
- Holding the piece over a flame.
- Running hot water through it.
- Microwave glass pieces briefly.
While effective for cleaning, overheating glass can cause cracks or breaks. Plastic gear may warp or melt under too much heat. It’s important to use the lowest temperature possible.
Glass items can be heated gradually to monitor for changes.
Other cleaning options like isopropyl alcohol, salt abrasion, or commercial cleaners don’t risk damaging gear.
Their drawback is leaving behind some chemical residue. Heat cleaning is more natural but must be done carefully.
