A nail is a small glass or titanium device used to smoke cannabis concentrates such as wax, shatter, or budder.
Nails are designed to fit into water pipes or dab rigs to provide cooling and filtration when dabbing.
What is a Nail?
Table of Contents
A nail is a bowl piece designed specifically for dabbing cannabis extracts and concentrates. Most nails are made from glass or titanium.
They contain a small dish or bucket to hold the cannabis extract, with a long pointed end called the “male joint” that fits into the “female joint” of a water pipe.
Nails heat up to extremely high temperatures, between 500-1000°F, in order to vaporize cannabis concentrates for inhalation.
How to Use a Nail?
Using a nail involves heating the nail until it is red-hot or at the desired temperature, then waiting for it to cool down slightly before dropping a small amount of concentrate into the heated nail dish.
This causes the concentrate to emit vapor, which can be inhaled.
Titanium and quartz nails retain heat very well, so cooling time is required in between heating and dabbing to avoid burning or wasting material.
Ceramic and glass nails have lower heat retention.
Many modern e-nails allow temperature precision and control. The nail, concentrate, and dabbing tool should be kept clean to optimize flavor.
