An octobowl, also sometimes called an octopus bowl, is a unique style of smoking bowl or pipe used for the consumption of cannabis.
Octobowls feature multiple arms or tubes extending from a central bowl, allowing multiple people to smoke simultaneously from the same pipe.
What is an Octobowl?
Table of Contents
An octobowl pipe contains a central bowl where a cannabis flower is loaded and burned. Surrounding the bowl are multiple arms, generally between 4 and 8, that act as mouthpieces.
Each arm has a carb (hole) that can be covered while inhaling to increase airflow through the pipe. By inhaling through an arm, the user can pull smoke from the central bowl through that tube.
This allows a group of people to sit around the octobowl and all partake at the same time, making it a very social smoking method.
How to Use an Octobowl?
Using an octobowl is quite simple. The marijuana flower will be loaded into the central bowl and fired up using a lighter. Once lit, users position themselves around one of the open arms.
Place your mouth over the tip and get ready to inhale. As you breathe in, use your thumb or finger to cover the carb to allow maximum airflow and inhale the smoke from the bowl through the tube.
Pass the lighter around to the next person, keeping the bowl cherried so others can take their hit.
Make sure to leave the carb open when not inhaling to allow proper air flow.
How to Clean an Octobowl?
Like other smoking devices, octobowls require regular cleaning to keep them functioning properly.
The central bowl can be cleaned by using a pipe cleaner soaked in isopropyl alcohol to scrub away resin buildup after use.
Tips of the arms can also be swabbed out between uses.
For deeper cleaning, isopropyl alcohol and coarse kosher salt can be shaken vigorously in the pipe to scrub the inside.
Always fully rinse and dry the pipe after cleaning before further use.
