What is Plant Matter?
Medical and psychotropic chemicals like THC and CBD are found in cannabis plant materials. This comprises leaves, stalks, and buds. Flowers and buds have the most active chemicals.
The cannabis plant has over 400 chemical compounds.
However, the main medicinal parts come from cannabinoids like THC and CBD found in the trichomes of the plant matter. Trichomes are the crystal resin glands on the leaves and buds of cannabis plants.
When cannabis is harvested and dried, the plant matter is usually separated. The buds which contain the most trichomes are maintained.
The stems and leaves contain lower levels of trichomes, so they are removed. The finished plant matter that is packaged and sold will contain primarily the marijuana buds.
Consuming cannabis plant matter means inhaling or ingesting the dried buds, leaves, and stems. This can be done by smoking, vaporizing, cooking oils or butter, making edibles, or brewing tea.
The compounds are released from the plant matter through heat. Consuming plant matter provides the full spectrum of therapeutic compounds found in the cannabis plant.
