What is a Tree Perc?

A tree perc refers to a type of percolator diffuser found inside a bong or water pipe.

Tree percs get their name from their appearance – they look like small glass trees with multiple stems shooting out of a central base.

Tree percs provide smoother hits by breaking up and filtering smoke through the slits in each “branch” before it travels through the rest of the pipe.

This diffusion process cools down the temperature and smooths out the smoke for a less harsh hit.

Pros and Cons of a Tree Perc

Some of the key benefits of tree perks include:

• Excellent diffusion – the many percolation points filter smoke thoroughly
• Smoother hits – smoke is nicely cooled and softened before inhalation
• Easy to clean – tree percs don’t have a lot of nooks where residue can build up

Potential downsides to consider:

• More fragile – the small glass branches can break more easily than other percs
• Higher cost – tree percs tend to increase the price of a pipe
• Not ideal for concentrates – concentrated cannabis extracts work better with less diffusion

How to Clean a Tree Perc?

Cleaning a tree perc is straightforward:

• Disassemble the pipe into sections to expose the tree perc.
• Submerge the tree perc in isopropyl alcohol or another glass pipe cleaning solution.
• Use pipe cleaners or cotton swabs to wipe away any residue caught between the branches.
• Rinse thoroughly with water to remove all traces of the cleaning solution.
• Allow to fully dry before reassembling the pipe.

Regular cleaning will keep a tree perc diffuser functioning optimally.
